Albania in photos

July 16, 2010 by jessperriam

It’s hot. Sorry. I know. It’s Friday. Everyday is a Friday to me. I’m in Albania. And it’s hot.

Ok, I’ll cowboy up, stop whining and upload some photos of this post-communist wonderland.

First of all, let’s go to Tirana. It’s the capital of Albania.

This is Skenderbeu... who is Skenderbeu?

Blloku, the communist block has had a lick of paint...

I love you too grafitti

Mother Teresa - Albania's most famous export

Step aside Canberra. Tirana has its own version of Lake Burley-Griffin. The Great (Fake) Lake!

View from the bus door. Yes, the door was open. Albanians call that air conditioning.

And here is Gramsh. It’s smack bang in the middle of Albania. Sort of.

How's the serenity? This is the view from Amy's apartment

Fancy some shoes? Don't fancy finding a matching pair.

A rickety bridge.

More pictures and stuff when I hit Italy and the internet connections are kinder.

PS. It is so continually hot here than we’ve instigated a ‘hot song of the day’. Today’s song was “The Heat Is On” by Glenn Frey (formally of The Eagles fame). Tomorrow will be a ’60s classic. Yeow!

That’s pretty funny. I think they’re happy enough with naming the airport after her, having a statue and from what I could understand a big banner at the opera house (maybe kinda?) in Tirana. Gotta love them for giving it a go though.
