Council House’s technicolour dreamcoat

Council House in chartreuse, Perth, May 2010

The Perth city skyline is rather spectacular at night. But a recent move to project coloured lights onto Council House has made it even more so.

Personally, I’m not a massive fan of the lights look on the entire building. It has a tendency to make the building look a little tie-dyed.

But the detail of the building is what makes it great. The 1960s former Lord Mayor’s folly (hence why they are ‘Ts’ for Tom on the exterior) gives it a Mad Men vogue. What was once an almost unforgivably uncool building is finding another moment in the sun.

Anyway, I headed down there around sunset to see what I could make of it.

And this is what happens when you lay down on the damp grass, point your camera skywards, take a deep breath and press the shutter.
